Supporting Communities After the Myanmar Earthquake
In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck central Myanmar over the weekend, families across Mandalay, Naypyitaw, and neighbouring regions are facing a harsh and uncertain reality. Homes have been damaged. Access to clean water and food has been disrupted. Medical care is stretched thin. Many are sleeping outdoors, afraid to return to their homes amid aftershocks and damaged infrastructure.
In the face of these challenges, teams across Yoma Group have come together to respond with speed, coordination, and care.
Delivering Urgent Aid Across Regions
On Sunday, our first relief convoy left Yangon, carrying water, dried food, instant noodles, and other emergency supplies to Mandalay. Distribution efforts began immediately, prioritising displaced families, those with young children, and communities with limited access to shops or local aid. Additional shipments are being prepared as field teams assess the most pressing needs in the days ahead.
Medical Response from Pun Hlaing Hospitals
Our colleagues from Pun Hlaing Hospitals have set up emergency ambulance services at Mandalay General Hospital, providing 24/7 care and patient transfers. Additional medical teams and resources are being deployed to support ongoing treatment efforts.
Food Aid, Hygiene and Crisis Logistics
With electricity and access to kitchens still unreliable in some areas, having a warm meal can be both a comfort and a lifeline. Our Yoma F&B teams are now conducting daily meal distributions across Mandalay, Naypyitaw and Taunggyi, focusing on temporary shelters, community halls, and hard-hit neighbourhoods. For many residents, these meals are the only hot food they’ve had since the earthquake struck.
Maintaining hygiene in high-density rescue zones is equally critical to preventing the spread of disease. To support this, our teams at JJ-PUN and Yoma Elevator have supplied 1,800 effervescent disinfectant tablets to frontline rescue teams – helping ensure safer, more sanitary conditions as aid continues.
Meanwhile, our logistics arm, KOSPA, has played a vital role in ensuring aid gets to those who need it most—coordinating and delivering over 4 tons of food to affected areas, often navigating damaged roads and supply bottlenecks to keep relief efforts moving.
A Moment of Unity and Resolve
In every corner of this effort, we’ve seen remarkable dedication – from staff who dropped everything to join response teams, to volunteers helping with meal packing and aid distribution. This is not just corporate coordination – it is personal. Our people live and work in these communities.
We know this is just the beginning. The days ahead will require even more support, more coordination, and more compassion.
